Dyed Cotton Duck

We take our 36in 12oz Cotton Duck and have it dyed here in the UK by a small finishing mill in the North West. The material is bleached, scoured, dyed and then given a wax emulsion 'shower-proof' finish.

The material has been used for many purposes over the years, but today it is often chosen for bags and aprons. Some of our colours are Reactive Dyed and this makes them relatively wash-fast. The rest are Direct Dyed, and this is a simpler form of dying that will rub and wash-out much more as the fabric is handled and washed.

A cotton fabric this heavy is very hard to wash successfully. When it gets wet it becomes extremely stiff, so we would recommend a commercial washing process rather than a domestic machine. Even so, the colour will rub off on the creases and the shower-proof finish will wash away. We like this effect, but it's not to everyone's taste.
