Stretcher Bars
Though the technology used to make expanding stretcher frames is several centuries old, wooden stretcher bars still provide the best solution for mounting artwork on canvas. All these bars will slot together with no fixings required. Use a mallet to square up the frames and check by measuring the diagonals - if both dimensions are the same then it is square. The bars are supplied with wooden wedges, two per corner. Knock these into the corner slots after stretching and use them to re-tension the canvas if it slackens off.

Standard Stretcher Bars

These light duty stretcher bars are made of laminated pine and have a slight lip that keeps the canvas away from the inside edge of the bar. These bars have a maximum size of 36 inches and do not come with cross bars. Sold per single piece. Supplied with wedges. Learn More -
Branded Stretcher Bars

Russell & Chapple ‘Branded’ stretchers are our quality range of canvas stretcher frames. They are made of laminated pine to minimise warping, and have a 1/4 in lip to raise the canvas away from the bars. All bars are mortised to take cross-bars from 36 inches. The bars made in ‘A’ paper sizes are not mortised for cross-bars at any length. Learn More -
Branded Cross Bars

Branded Cross-bar are available for all sizes. These are useful for bracing a larger frame, and are necessary when one of the dimensions is 36 inches or over. Crossbars are notched to overlap from 36 inches, either at the Front or Back. To make a cross you will need one Front and one Back cross-bar. Sold per single piece. Supplied with wedges. Learn More -
